In terms of copper reserves, the GLOBAL copper reserves are about 870 million tons and production is 20 million tons as of 2019, according to the US Geological Survey's Mineral Commodity Summaries 2020. The country with the largest copper reserves is Chile, with about 200 million tons; Peru and Australia are next with 87m tonnes each. Russia has about 61m tonnes of copper reserves but produces only about 750,000 tonnes.

China's refined copper imports mainly come from Chile, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Japan, Peru and other countries, and very little from Russia.
